Guatemala, Central America’s most western country, shares borders with Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras, Belize and the Caribbean and Pacific Oceans. The country’s largest lake, Atitlan lies in a basin ringed by volcanoes just west of the capital Guatemala City. Climate wise, Guatemala is a sweltering, tropical country where temperatures often sore to 38C and humidity is unbearable, yet the highlands still reach freezing point at night.
